Restore

In 2 Chronicles 29, Hezekiah cleans out the temple and consecrates it to the Lord, restoring it to its intended purpose. As temples of the Holy Spirit, God wants to restore us to our intended purpose, too! He wants to cleanse our minds and consecrate our hearts so that we can house His presence fully. He wants to rebuild areas in our lives that are crumbling because they were built on sand. This is overwhelming if we try to do it on our own strength. Instead, let’s listen to God’s word to Zerubbabel when he rebuilds the temple after the Israelites have been in exile:

“This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the Lord of hosts. Who are you, O great mountain? Before Zerubbabel you shall become a plain. And he shall bring forward the top stone amid shouts of ‘Grace, grace to it!’ Zechariah 4:6-7

Replace your name with Zerubbabel’s and read that again. The rebuilding project you’re facing today may feel like an unscalable mountain. Restoration may feel like something out of a fairy tale. Whether it’s in your finances or your marriage or your parenting or anything at all, know that by His transformative grace, He will flatten that mountain and restore you and yours to your intended purpose as you surrender to Him. One stone, one step at a time. He is doing this for me and I believe He will continue to. It may take a long time or it may “come about suddenly” as it did for Hezekiah (2 Chronicles 29:36) but it will always bring rejoicing!

Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal to you an area in your life that needs rebuilding or a heart issue or mindset that needs restoration. Confess that back to Him and then to a trusted friend.

Ask the Holy Spirit what the first step is in scaling that mountain, believing He will enable you to do it as you surrender to Him.
